Bourbon Gents World Cup 2019: Final
World Cup Final Wrap Up
It’s all over again for another year. The Bourbon Gents World Cup 2019 has come to an end. 2 weeks, 64 bourbons and thousands of votes, but there can only be one winner. Some matches were very tight, some had landslides victories, and we even had to invoke emergency meetings to decide on a winner after two draws. Eventually though it came down to the final match and two bourbons facing off.
Read on to find out how the final unwrapped and who was crowned Bourbon Gents World Cup winner 2019.
Voting for the Final started on Friday evening at 18:00 sharp. Four Roses Single Barrel took the home dressing room (they probably could walk into the dressing room blindfolded these days) and William Larue Weller, the underdogs (according to the latest betting anyway) shuffled nervously into the away dressing room. This was going to one hell of a game, with the voting time being extended to 48 hours for the final. Bourbons from the BTAC collection are no strangers to winning awards and accolades but William Larue Weller had so far never gone further than the 2nd round of the Bourbon Gents World Cup - what could they do in the final…
Voting numbers were steady early doors with the die-hard Four Rose’s and BTAC fans casting their votes immediately for their favourite bourbons. Many bourbon fans throughout the globe were sitting on their barrels, taking their time before making a final decision. For those lucky enough to have a bottle of William Larue Weller and Four Roses Single Barrel, a side by side taste comparison was the best course of action to help them make that decision. One vote was all they had. The decision could not be taken lightly.
Percentages were close throughout the game and at half time it really could have gone either way. Our betting contacts confirmed that a lot of money was wagered on William Larue Weller and they did actually become favourites for a short time.
It did not take long, however, before Four Roses Single Barrel edged out ahead and slowly the lead increased and they ultimately became unstoppable. In the end Four Roses Single Barrel won the contest comfortably, 57% to 43%. Triple World Cup Winners, wow what an honour. The Gents doff their hats and congratulate Brent Elliott and all those who work at the Four Roses distillery. Three in a row could be heard chanted in the streets after the match and probably long into the night.
What we love about this World Cup and the ethos of the competition since its inception is that it is you who decide the winner, our Twitter friends throughout the World. The end result of who is crowned the 2019 Bourbon Gents World Cup is decided by worldwide bourbon fans.
