Bourbon Gents World Cup 2018

Bourbon Gents World Cup 2018

Back by popular demand....

Welcome back to the Bourbon Gents World Cup. A World Cup that excludes every other country apart from the USA. Last year’s inaugural competition was a great success with shocks and surprises throughout. The famous Pappy Van Winkle range didn’t perform as well as you might have thought, Stagg Junior, Wild Turkey 101 and even Mav’s 2nd favourite bourbon of all time (Noah’s Mill) were all knocked out in the first round.

After thousands of votes, the final was fought between Four Roses Single Barrel and Mr Pie’s all-time favourite Blanton’s Gold, with Four Roses Single Barrel running out the clear winner (67% to 33%). If you want to see how last year’s competition panned out and look at all of the results, here is the link Bourbon Gents World Cup 2017

Due to last year’s success we have decided to double the size of the event this year and make it open to 64 bourbons in the very first round, but the World Cup chart will only show the final 32 bourbons. No reason for this other than Mav's refusal to make a new chart.

So from Friday 9th March (18:00 GMT) it is your chance once more to get right behind your favourite bourbon and vote for it to win the Bourbon Gents World Cup of 2018. Can Four Roses Single Barrel retain the title? Will Noah's Mill make it past the first round? Well that’s all up to you!

Will your favourite Master Distiller be holding the Bourbon Gents World Cup trophy this year?

The Rules:

The rules are very simple and only you, the voting public, can decide who will win. The rules are as follows:

  • Last year’s winner has automatic entry into this year’s competition

  • Only bourbons have been allowed entry (No rye or other American whiskey)

  • Every bourbon known to the Gents was originally entered but only 64 have been drawn out and will compete in the head to head knockout stages

  • There is no seeding

  • It is a straight head to head vote, one bourbon against another

  • If there is a tie, the Bourbon Gents will have the casting vote

  • Voting can only be made via Twitter

  • Voting will be opening from 18:00 UK time on the days published and will last for 24 hours (apart from the final which be 48 hours)

We talk more about the World Cup and draw in Episode 25 of our podcast and have even made a special podcast where you can listen exclusively to two grown men picking bits of paper out of a bowl and reading out aloud what’s written on them in our live Draw.
